Mike James
Hearing of Dixie's passing really hits home. I haven't seen him since 1961 when we moved to St. Louis.
When I lived in Brook, Dixie was legendary. I remember his cars, mainly his black Ford and then that Pontiac. He cruised our main street & was just cool. He was nice & pleasant and many of us wanted to be like him. His brother, Eddie, was cool & equally nice.
I'm feeling my mortality, today. He was our kind of hero. Hearing of his passing is a wake up call.
But Dixie is where he was meant to be. I have this picture in my mind of him cruising up to the Pearly Gates in one of his cars. St. Peter looks at him, says, "Welcome, Dixie, we've been waiting." And then, he waves him through.
Wishing you smooth, straight roads, forever, Dixie.
This guy will miss you.
