Obituary for Betty Jean Gibson

Betty Jean  Gibson
Betty Jean Gibson, 84, a long time resident of Newton County, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2014 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook. She was born in St. Charles, KY on Oct. 24, 1930, daughter of the late Lucian and Myrtle (Swathard) Menser. On Aug. 23, 1947 she married Harley Wayne Gibson. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2008.

Betty was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of the Colfax Township Home Ec Club and a Bunco Club. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious apple pies, fried chicken and yeast rolls. She also enjoyed reading, listening to country music, watching old western movies and especially spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her loving family: two sons, Harley Gibson, Jr. (Cheri) of DeMotte and Steven Gibson of Rensselaer; two daughters, Susan Amey of Lafayette and Chyna Casey (Shawn) of Watseka, IL; one sister, Laurie Royal of Ohio; eleven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Harley; her son Michael; great granddaughter Katlyn Sue; and several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 from 9-11 a.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Pastor Fred Zaugg officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
