Elizabeth “Liz” Austin, 56, of Rensselaer, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 2014 at her home. She was born in Hammond Oct. 4, 1957, daughter of the late James Hubbard and Doris (Day) Shoup. She graduated from high school in Hammond. On Oct. 6, 1973, in Crown Point, she married Eddie Austin, and he survives. Liz was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafts, spending time with her grandkids, volunteering at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry, and driving for Meals on Wheels.

Liz is survived by her loving family: husband Eddie Austin of Rensselaer; two sons: James (Tracie) Austin and John (Skipper) Austin, all of Rensselaer; one daughter, Jill (Robert) Johnson of Rensselaer; two brothers: Casey (Debbie) Hubbard of Rensselaer and Patrick (Gale) Conley of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Cindy Rivera of Socorro, NM; and 15 grandchildren: Paige Austin, Kobe Austin, Karlee Austin, Breanna Austin, Kori Austin, Kenna Austin, Kloi Austin, Curtis Johnson, Arianna Johnson, Mercedes Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Jaxson Johnson, Daisy Souders, Joshua Hensley, and Caitlyn Hurley. She was preceded in death by: her father, James Hubbard; her mother, Doris Shoup; one brother, James Hubbard; and one brother-in-law, Ben Rivera.

Per Liz’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Good Samaritan Food Pantry or Meals on Wheels.
