Obituary for Lois J. Yearsley (Lonergan)

Lois J. Yearsley, 85, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette. She was born in Newton Township May 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Edward Paul Lonergan and Martha (Hielscher) Lonergan. She graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1946 and moved to Chicago. On July 7, 1960, in Chicago, she married Stanley Weston Yearsley. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Lois was a secretary and stenographer for Dole – Eaton Valve Co. in Chicago where she met her husband Stanley. They were married 26 years. Lois and her husband were devout Chicago Cubs fans. They enjoyed their life in the city, going to plays bowling and playing golf. Lois retired in 1972 and moved back to Rensselaer with her husband. She was a member of the Rensselaer Church of the Nazarene and Moose Lodge #2272 of Rensselaer. She enjoyed going to yard and estate sales, working crossword puzzles, watching game shows on television, playing euchre, and visiting with her friends at the Jasper County Community Services Center.

Lois is survived by: one sister, Sharron Corbin (husband: Edward E., Sr.) of Rensselaer; two nephews, Edward Corbin, Jr. of Lafayette and William Corbin of Wheatfield. She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband and one brother.

Per Lois’ wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Rensselaer Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Lisa Ulrich officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Rensselaer Church of the Nazarene, the Jasper County Community Services Center, Rensselaer Moose Lodge #2272, or the hospice of your choice.
