Obituary for Robert Dean "Bob" Taylor

Robert Dean “Bob” Taylor, 82, of Brook, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 28, 2013 at Jasper County Hospital. He was born in Kentland on Dec. 5, 1930, the son of Leslie M. Taylor and Freida E. (Dye) Taylor. He was a lifetime area resident.

Bob graduated from Kentland High School with the Class of 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War from 1951-1953. On July 30, 1955, in Monticello, he married Arlene Mitchell, and she survives.

Bob was a lifelong farmer, retiring in 1998. He was a Mason and was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #361 of Kentland. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs and was a big IU basketball and Notre Dame football fan.

Bob is survived by his loving family: wife Arlene Taylor of Brook; three sons: Dr. Gary Taylor (wife: Julie) of Rock Rapids, IA, Gerald Taylor of Brook, and David Taylor (wife: Wendy) of Richland, IN; three daughters: Terry Spurgeon (husband: Kurt) of Glendale Heights, IL, Lesa Taylor of Rensselaer, and Marcia Patrick (husband: Brian) of Brook; two sisters: Barbara Moore (husband: Victor) of Rensselaer and Joyce Ancliff (husband: Richard “Dick”) of Brook; one sister-in-law, Gail Mitchell of Rensselaer; 10 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 6 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents, one brother, one sister and one great grandson.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Richard E. Gerts officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Kentland. Memorials are suggested to The American Heart Association or The Autism Society of Indiana.
