Obituary for Edith Sipe

Edith Helene Sipe, age 90, formerly of Morocco, went home to be with her lord and Savior Sunday May 20, 2018 at the AlternaCare residence of Franciscan Health Rensselaer. Edith was born February 29, 1928 in Kentland, IN the daughter of William H. Hoover and Hazel (Morgan) Hoover. She attended school in Kentland and was a graduate of A.J. Kent High School in 1946. On July 24, 1948 she married Gaylen G. Sipe and the enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage together. Gaylen preceded her in death on October 25, 2008.

Edith was a life-long resident of Newton County. She worked as a telephone operator for a short time until she married at which time she proudly became a farmer’s wife. She helped raise 5 children and was a wonderful and dedicated mother. She was admired for her loving and nurturing care of their son, David, which allowed him to have a long, enjoyable life with his family. She continued her caring spirit as an influence and inspiration to her grandchildren, being a strong presence in their lives. She was known to be a favorite Aunt to many nieces and nephews, mostly due to her wonderful sense of humor.

Edith was a member of United Church of Morocco wherein she enjoyed many years as a member of the Seeker’s Circle. She also helped with Word of Life youth group coaching kids with memory verses. Edit loved to work in her large garden where she spent much of her time. She also loved morel mushroom hunting in the spring as well as berry picking in the summer. Those berries were then used in her famous triple berry pie, which was a family favorite.

Edith is survived by her children: Ricky (Bonnie) Sipe, Mark Sipe, Annette (Jeff) Iseminger, and Gayle (Cary) James; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gaylen, son David, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
