Obituary for Winston C Sears Sr.

Winston C. Sears, Sr., 77, of Rensselaer, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was born in Ruth, Kentucky on October 2, 1940, the son of Jewell P. and Lera (Colyer) Sears. He graduated from Remington High School with the Class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Army with the 538th Engineers in Natrain, Vietnam from 1961–1966.

On October 4, 1968, in Rensselaer, he married Doris M. Richards. Winston worked as a diesel mechanic for Truck City in Gary for 30 years. He was a member of Burr Oak Church, Disabled American Veterans and AMVETS. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling and working in his garden. Winston was a loving father and grandfather and was devoted to his family. He loved spending time with family and his two beagles, Regal and Sadie.

Winston is survived by his loving wife, Doris M. Sears of Rensselaer; five children: Winston Sears, Jr. of Francesville, Kim (Scott) Wright of Brook, Kathy (Steve) Lewis of Amboy, IN, Mike Knoerzer of Rensselaer, and Janet (Tony) Bass of Fowler; five grandchildren: Cody Wright of Rensselaer, Brett (Kristine) Wright of Morocco, IN, Kyle Lewis (fiancé: Tiffani Rossman) of Peru, IN, Jessie Bass of West Lafayette, and Courtney (Manny) Esquivia of Fort Lewis, WA; one great-granddaughter, Avery Esquivia of Fort Lewis, WA; and three sisters: Wilma (Dale) Lehe of Remington, Doretta Alonzo of West Lafayette, and Debra (Richard) Bacon of Kemp, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Lera Sears.

Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. (CST) at Burr Oak Church, 11506 W. 200 S, Rensselaer, IN 47978. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Burr Oak Church with Pastor Debbie Voss officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral. Burial will be at a later date at Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be made to AMVETS or Burr Oak Church. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
