Condolence: Tom and I worked out together and shared many stories about Saint Joe and both our disappointments over it's closing. We talked about our mutual love for the community and for our schools and park systems. Tom was a great and kind man I will miss a lot.

Condolence: Please accept my condolences for the loss of Tom Effinger, your father, brother, and friend. I knew Tom first as my daughter's fifth grade teacher, then as a fun colleague on a school committee, later as an SJC Fellow. He was a common sense guy with a great sense of humor, a devout faith, and general all around good will toward most folks he knew. He saw through peoples' failings to understand their good qualities. He lived his life well. Rensselaer was a better town because Tom lived and worked there.

Condolence: Joe, Shell and Michael, we were saddened to hear of your loss. I was a fifth grade math student of your dad's at Van Rensselaer Elementary school and will only be able to call him Mr. Effinger. Our prayers and warm thoughts are with you.

Condolence: Sorry for your loss. Tom was more than just a boss. He was a friend and mentor. Enjoyed his visits when he would stop by and sit in the car to discuss what was happening. He will truly be missed.

Working with your father for 15 years as elementary school principals, I admired his aphorism- "Make the decision with the students best interest in mind ." He truly cared for the students. Condolence: Sorry for your loss, I knew Tom only briefly but he had many cups of coffee and conversation with our mom and step father. From conversations I had with Tom I knew he was a great guy, trustworthy and very polite, The kind of person we are glad our parents could call a friend. Condolence: What a loss to the entire community! Mr. Effinger was my teacher at Marion School a long time ago! I learned about a year ago that we were his first class after his college graduation. He ALWAYS knew me, called me by name and was always curious about what I was doing with my life! I remember when he coached the Marion basketball game, when he and his wife were first married. My sincere condolences to the entire family.
