Obituary for Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Van Meter

Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Van Meter, 65, of Rensselaer, Indiana passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lafayette on March 15, 1952, the daughter of Albert Lee Kerns and Juanita June (Maxwell) Kerns. She graduated from Rensselaer Central High School with the Class of 1970.

Becky retired from the City of Rensselaer Clerk-Treasurer’s office after 20 years of service. She was a member and bartender/server at the Rensselaer American Legion Post #29, VFW Post #1279, and the Eagles Lodge. She also tended bar at the Oakdale Inn in Monticello and the Linnwood Tavern in Lafayette. She was a huge Chicago Bears fan. She loved to attend her grandkid’s sporting events and spend time with her friends and family.

Becky is survived by her loving family: two sons, Albert John “AJ” (Krissi) Van Meter of Portage and Eric Edward (Kelly) Van Meter of Remington; one daughter, Erica Lynn Van Meter of Lafayette; one brother, Gale (Noreen) Kerns of Rensselaer; one sister, Linda (Max) Stevens of Rensselaer; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Albert Lee Kerns and Juanita June Kerns; and her favorite pets, “Daisy Mae” and “Reno”.

Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. (CDT) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer with Bryan Hart officiating. The family requests that friends wear Chicago Bears, Rensselaer Bombers, or their favorite sports team attire to the visitation and the Celebration of Life service.
