Obituary for Cecil Stewart Jr.

Cecil Stewart Jr.
Cecil Stewart, Jr., 67, of Morocco, passed away at Franciscan Health Crown Point on Friday, April 7, 2017. He was born in Indianapolis on January 22, 1950, the son of the late Cecil and Annie Mary Stewart.

An independent man, Cecil had been on his own since the age of 13. He graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis. As a student, he organized his own gang of friends to do good deeds for others at Wood High School. He was proud of his nickname: “The Ghost”.

After high school Cecil enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1972-1975. Known as “Crazy Indian” to his fellow service members, Cecil was a tank mechanic stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and also in Germany. He was proud to be designated a Marksman (M-16 rifle) and earned a National Defense Service Medal.

Cecil was very proud of his Native American Indian heritage. The Great Horned Owl was his spirit guide. When he was younger, he enjoyed caving with his uncles down in Kentucky and riding his motorcycle. He always enjoyed a good road trip with friends. He was a lifelong gamer who always had the latest consoles and video gaming systems. He was a talented craftsman who made knives on his own forge. He also restored old windows.

Cecil spent most of his life in Indianapolis. He worked as a maintenance man for an apartment complex there for 15 years prior to moving to Morocco seven years ago. He was an entrepreneur and helped friends start the local business The Green Spot. He was a kind, generous man who enjoyed volunteering with Santa’s Chefs delivering meals to local residents at Christmas. He will be greatly missed by all who considered him a friend and neighbor.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. (Central Time) at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco. Friends are invited to gather at American Legion Post #146, 402 N. Walker Street in Morocco following the service for food and fellowship. Contributions in Cecil’s memory may be made to the Morocco American Legion Post #146. Share memories and condolences online at www.SteinkeFuneralHome.com.
