Obituary for Genevieve Jones (Smith)
Genevieve Jones, 82, of Rensselaer, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Genny was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on November 22, 1934, daughter of the late Everette and Hazel (Templeton) Smith. She moved to Indiana as a young girl and attended school in Fair Oaks. On March 17, 1962, she married Clarence E. Jones. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1992.
Genny worked as a dishwasher at the Rensselaer Care Center for three years, and at the Rensselaer Pizza Hut for 21 years. She attended Brushwood United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and making latch hook rugs, jigsaw puzzles, taking walks, and was an avid reader.
Genny is survived by her four children: James E. Jones, Sandra Jean Jones, Sue Ann Jones, and Earl E. (Carol) Jones; four grandchildren: Shane, Carol Lynn, Beth Lee, and Raven; three brothers: Everette Smith, Roy (Sue) Smith, Jack (Margaret) Smith; and one sister, Edith (Don) Borst. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Everette and Hazel Smith; husband Clarence E. Jones; two sisters, Alice Spa and Ruby Armentrout; and one brother, Edgar Smith.
A memorial service for Genny will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Brushwood United Methodist Church. Rev. Hyesook Kim officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to Brushwood United Methodist Church. Steinke Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
