Obituary for Helen Jean Maycinik (Kessler)

Helen Jean  Maycinik (Kessler)
Helen Jean Maycinik, 91, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015, at Brookdale at Bear Creek in Colorado Springs. Helen was born in Morocco, Indiana, on January 13, 1924, to Vivian D. and Alice (Carlson) Kessler. She graduated from Morocco High School in 1943 and from Purdue University in 1947 with a B.S. in Home Economics. After graduation, Helen began a career as a home economist for Public Service Co. of Northern Illinois and Indiana, living first in Streator, Illinois, and later moving to Ottawa, Illinois.

Helen married Michael Maycinik on July 19, 1953. They moved to Morocco in 1959, where Mike began farming the Vivian D. Kessler farm. Helen was an active member of the Morocco First United Methodist Church throughout her time in Morocco, and she volunteered in the church’s thrift shop for many years. She was also a member of the Morocco Literary Club and the Owl Club. Helen loved reading and especially spending time with her family and friends. In 2006, Helen moved to Colorado Springs.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (John) Ewen of Rochester, Minnesota, and Susan Nikaido of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren, Emily Ewen of Minneapolis, Michael Ewen of Rochester, Minnesota, Bryan Nikaido of Colorado Springs, and Amy Nikaido, also of Colorado Springs; her sister, Roberta Musser of Petaluma, California, and her brother, John (Carole) Kessler of Morocco, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her, husband, Michael, who passed away on June 26, 1998; her brother-in-law, Wayne Musser; and her son-in-law, Ronald Nikaido.

Memorials are suggested to the Morocco First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Morocco, Indiana, followed by funeral service at noon. Rev. Wayne Williams officiating.
