Obituary for Daniel Olin "Dan" Hay

Daniel Olin Hay, 70, of Rensselaer, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 19, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Lafayette on March 26, 1945, son of the late Rollin W. and Edna I. (Fell) Hay. He grew up in Benton County and graduated from high school in Oxford.

Dan served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. On July 29, 1967, in Dunnington, he married his wife of 48 years, Carol (Sondgeroth) Hay. He was a self-employed HVAC technician and owned and operated Hay Heating & Cooling. He was a member of American Legion Post #29 and VFW Post #1279, and was Past Commander of both. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing horseshoes.

Dan is survived by loving family: wife Carol Hay; three sons: Rhyan Hay, Daniel (Raylene) Hay II, and Rollin W. (Anne) Hay; three grandchildren: Dennis M. Justice, Jamie L. Justice, and Karly (Spencer) Hay-Alvey; five great-grandchildren: Jase David Alvey, Richard Henry, Aubree Justice, Bryson Justice, and Ava Justice; and four sisters: Gwen Ladd, Nancy Cordes, Barbara Atha, and Nycha Senesac. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Rollin Hay and Jack Hay; and one sister, Rose Edmonds.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Bob Rawlins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Weston Cemetery.
