Carl Richard “Rich” Rutledge, 45, of Morocco, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana on February 22, 1970, the son of Gwen (Kendall) Morrison and the late Carl Matthew Rutledge. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County.

Rich graduated from North Newton High School and went on to study auto mechanics at Ivy Tech in Lafayette. He was self-employed as a mechanic at Rutledge Auto Center in Enos. Rich enjoyed working on and rebuilding old cars. When not working at his auto center, he enjoyed helping his brother, Chad, farming. He loved riding his motorcycle, and participated in numerous benefit rides. He also enjoyed bowling, building his man-cave, “The Saloon”, and especially spending time with his son, C.J.

Rich is survived by his mother, Gwen (Ron) Morrison; son C.J. Rutledge; step-son Damain Vetter; and brother Chad Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Matthew Rutledge.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4-9 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco with Pastor Edwin Bontreger officiating. Interment will follow at North Star Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Morocco Community Center following interment.

Memorials are suggested to the family to establish a fund for C.J.’s education. Make checks payable to: Gwen Morrison. Memorials may be placed in the Memorial Donation Box inside the foyer at Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco during visitation on Thursday, October 8th or prior to the funeral on Friday, October 9th.
