Obituary for Henry "Poppy" Luttrell

Henry “Poppy” Luttrell, 90, of Mt. Ayr, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, Aug. 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Casey County, KY on Jan. 13, 1923, the son of the late Everett and Lula Luttrell. On Mar. 29, 1943, he married his wife Caroline. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1995.

Poppy was a self-employed farmer. He attended the Apostolic Bible Church in Rensselaer. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, cutting firewood and refurbishing old houses.

Poppy is survived by his loving family: six children: Lula Mae Floyd of Mt. Ayr, Phyllis (Mrs. John) Smith of Mt. Ayr, Rose (Mrs. Richard) Shultz of Rensselaer, Jerry (wife Helen) Luttrell of Rensselaer, William (wife Carol) Luttrell of Mt. Ayr and Marvin (wife Deb) Luttrell of Kentucky; two brothers: Ray Luttrell of Kentucky and Curt (wife Peg) Luttrell of Kentucky; 30 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; two brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Iroquois Valley Christian Church, located at 2335 W. Bunkum Rd. Funeral services will be held at the church at noon with Rev. Larry Hart officiating. Interment will follow at DeMotte Cemetery. The Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
