DORIS A. FITCH, 89 of Rensselaer formerly of Crown Point, passed away Tuesday evening, August 31, 2010 at Rensselaer Care Center. She was born in Illinois October 24, 1920, daughter of the late Theodore and Ruby (Chapman) Davis. She attended Hammond Tech High School. On December 27, 1938, in Hammond, she married Bluford Fitch. He died in 1973. For 7 years, Doris was head cook for Lake Region Christian Assembly. She was affiliated with of the IVCC of Rensselaer. Doris was a hard working mother, canning, cleaning and lovingly caring for her 6 children. In later years she enjoyed playing card and board games and putting puzzles together. Her joy was spending time with her extended family. Children who survive are: Jim (Donna) Fitch of Valparaiso, Norene (Gary) Balcerak of DeMotte, Darlene (Jim) Williams of Rensselaer, Sherman (Alice) Fitch of Cedar Lake, Bluford (Helen) Fitch of Crown Point and Mary (John) Kolada of Lake Village, 1 sister, Alberta Abel of Munster and sister-in-law, Joann Davis of Crown Point, 22 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. 13 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Visitation is Sept. 5th from 4 until 7:00 PM at Steinke Funeral Home in Rensselaer and Sept. 6th from 10 until time of funeral at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church, 495 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point. Interment is Sept. 7th at 10:30 AM at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
