Obituary for VIRGINIA DELGADO

Virginia R. Delgado, 79, of rural Rensselaer, passed away Tuesday morning, October 2, 2012 at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. She was born April 7, 1933 in Salyersville, KY a daughter of the late Leonard and Fannie (May) Powers. Virginia was a lifetime Jasper County resident and attended Gillam School. On July 5, 1975, she married Macario “Max” Delgado. He survives. Virginia was a housekeeper at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer for 20 years, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Gillam Township.

Virginia enjoyed many activities including spending time with her family, shopping, reading, cooking and canning.

Children surviving are: James (Connie) Nabors and Pam (Jim) DeMoss of Wheatfield and Tom (Lori) Nabors and Regina (Steve) DeMoss of Medaryville.

Step-children who survive are: Estela Zamora, Rita Delgado, Delia (Philip) Albrecht, all of Rensselaer; Sally (Chris) Smidler of Medaryville, Rosa (Rich) Hendryx of Indianapolis, Macario (Rosie) Delgado, Jr., Jimmy (Priscilla) Delgado, Vincent (Linda) Delgado and Yolanda (Bivian) Cueva all of SanMarcos, TX and Mary Jane (Hilario) Zamora of Maxwell, TX.

A sister, Dula Hirth and brother, Grover (Connie) Powers are surviving.

Surviving are 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren, 24 step-great grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Virginia in death were her parents, brother, Ishmael Powers and 2 sisters, Helen Powers and Thelma Whitaker.

Visitation will be held at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer from 4 until 8 P.M. (CDT) Thursday, October 4, 2012. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at the United Baptist Church of Gillam Township at 10:00 A.M. (CDT) with Pastor John Miller officiating. Interment follows at Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.
