Michael Joseph Oldenberg, 64, of Morocco, passed away Monday morning, October 22, 2012 at his home. He was born in Hammond on March 3, 1948, son of the late Donald J. and Mary E. (Weir) Oldenberg. A graduate of Morton High School in Hammond, Michael went on to serve his Country in the U.S. Army in Korea. On June 20, 1970, in Cedar Lake, he married Shirley Gentry, and she survives.
Michael was the owner-operator of Oldenberg & Son Wrecker and Towing Service, and also hauled semis prior to retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Beaverville, IL, and the Indiana Towing Association. He enjoyed racing dirt track modified cars.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Oldenberg of Morocco; a son, Craig Oldenberg of Miller; a daughter, Mary Oldenberg of Portage; and two sisters, Patty Irby (Jack) of Monon and Dawn Blaskovich (Mark) of Hammond. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Beaverville, IL with Pastor Father Reynaldo Treyes officiating. Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco is handling the arrangements.
