Obituary for Velva Tweedie

Velva Tweedie, 88, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday morning, November 22, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Bloomington. Velva was born in Jasper County April 7, 1924, daughter of the late Alfred E. and Cora (Blaze) Bisher. She graduated from Remington High School with the Class of 1942. On October 7, 1942, Velva married Paul Tweedie. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1984.

Velva was a homemaker and also worked as a clerk at Schultz Bros. and in production at Northway Products in Rensselaer. She was of the Christian faith and had served as an assistant Sunday school teacher and Brownie Scout Leader.

Velva is survived by her son, Don (Mary) Tweedie of Bloomington, IL; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, and eight brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. (CST) at Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer, with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
